EveryDollar is Ramsey Solutions' zero-based budget app: you plan where every dollar of income goes before you spend it, so income minus expenses comes to zero. On the free version you type each purchase in. Premium connects your bank and streams transactions into the budget. Sorayli never connects to a bank. You photograph a receipt and it saves each item with its own category.
EveryDollar's details come from Ramsey Solutions' own pages, read on October 6, 2026 and listed at the end. Plans change, so check them before you decide. Sorayli is not affiliated with EveryDollar or Ramsey Solutions.

02Who should stay with EveryDollar
- You want a zero-based plan, with every dollar of each paycheck given a job before you spend it. Sorayli tracks spending against limits; it does not plan your income.
- You follow Ramsey's approach and want the roadmap, goal tracking and coaching that come with Premium.
- You and a partner want to manage one budget together. EveryDollar's household feature does that; Sorayli Family keeps each person's ledger private.
- You bank in the US and are happy to pay for bank sync so transactions arrive on their own.

03The free version is a lot of typing
Ramsey's own comparison says bank syncing isn't available on EveryDollar's free plan, so you enter transactions by hand until you upgrade. A store run goes in as one amount you split across budget lines yourself. Here is one that would be a single $38.08 entry.

Sorayli reads the seven items, the coupon and the tax from the photo. The food comes to $19.71, the household items to $14.78 once the coupon comes off the paper towels, and the candles to $2.49, each in its own category, before you have typed a thing. You can still correct any line before you save.
04Planning versus tracking
This is the real difference. EveryDollar starts from your income and asks you to plan the month. Sorayli starts from what you spent and tells you where it went. A Sorayli budget is a monthly limit on a category or on all spending, with an alert at the point you pick, from 50% to 100% of the limit (80% to start), by email and, if you allow it, iPhone push.
On Pro and Family, Insights adds a safe-to-spend figure for each remaining day: your typical income from the last three full months you recorded, minus what you have spent and the recurring bills still due, divided by the days left. It is a running check, not a plan. See how budgets work and what Insights show.
05Moving your history over
- Export your transactions from EveryDollar as a CSV file. Ramsey lists CSV export as a Premium feature.
- Rename the columns Sorayli reads: Date, Title, Amount and Category. Keep amounts positive and add a Type column with expense or income.
- Import the file in Sorayli on the web. Categories that don't match one of yours come in uncategorized, and Sorayli tells you how many.
- Set up the budgets you want by hand. Budget lines and plans don't carry over.
If you are on EveryDollar's free version, there is no export, so start fresh: a month of receipts is enough to see where your money goes. Our guide to tracking expenses without linking your bank sets out the routine.

- You and a partner want to manage one budget together.
Choose
Sorayli if
- You want to stop typing purchases in, without linking a bank.
- You want each item on a receipt in its own category.
- You live outside the US, or spend in more than one currency.
Neither, if you want envelopes rather than a zero-based plan. See our Goodbudget alternative page.
Is EveryDollar free without linking a bank?
Yes. The free version has no bank connection at all: you enter each transaction by hand. Connecting a bank is a Premium feature, $79.99 a year or $17.99 a month.
Does EveryDollar scan receipts?
Its pages describe no receipt scanning. If you want a receipt read into line items, Sorayli does that on every plan, with 10 free scans a month.
Can I use EveryDollar outside the US?
Its help center says EveryDollar supports US dollars only, and that the mobile app and Premium are not offered outside the US. Sorayli converts each purchase to your own currency at a daily rate.
Can Sorayli do zero-based budgeting?
No. Sorayli tracks what you spend against monthly limits; it doesn't assign income to categories. Many people keep a zero-based plan on paper and use Sorayli to see where the money actually went.
