A Rocket Money alternative without a bank link: Sorayli vs Rocket Money

If you want an app that finds your subscriptions and cancels them for you, choose Rocket Money: it does that, and Sorayli does not. If you would rather not link a bank, or your bank is outside the US, Sorayli tracks what you scan or type, down to each item on a receipt.
Seen from above: four printed subscription invoices in a row with names and amounts, one crossed out with a pen, and an iPhone 17 Pro in cosmic orange.

Rocket Money and Sorayli both show you where your money goes, but they start from opposite ends. Rocket Money reads your bank. It needs at least a checking account linked, and from those transactions it builds your spending history, your budget and a list of your subscriptions. Sorayli never connects to a bank. You scan a receipt or type a purchase in, and it saves each item on the receipt with its own category.

Rocket Money's details come from its own website and help center, read on September 28, 2026, with its prices and countries checked again on October 6, 2026, and listed at the end with the day we read each one. It changes its plans, so check its pages before you decide. Sorayli is not affiliated with Rocket Money.

02Where Rocket Money is the better choice

If your goal is to find subscriptions you forgot about, Rocket Money does that job and Sorayli does not. Once your accounts are linked, Rocket Money scans the transaction history for monthly subscriptions, annual charges and free trials that turned into paid plans. Sorayli only knows about a subscription after you mark a charge as recurring, so a forgotten $8.99 charge stays forgotten until you spot it yourself.

Rocket Money also does work on your behalf. On Premium, you pick a subscription, fill in a short form, and its team contacts the provider. It says most cancellations are done within a few business days, and that a charge can still go through before one is confirmed. It will also try to lower your bills. On Free and Premium that costs 35% to 60% of the first year's savings, and only if it saves you money; on Premium+ there is no fee.

  • You want every account in one place, with your credit score, net worth and automated savings next to your spending.
  • You want new card charges to show up without doing anything. A linked account fills itself in; with Sorayli, you add each purchase.

03What a bank feed does not show

A bank transaction is one line: a merchant, a date and an amount. Here is a single store run that would reach a linked account as one $62.07 charge.

Card

An example receipt. The shop and prices are illustrative; the categories are Sorayli defaults.

Rocket Money says it picks a category from the charge name, the merchant, how often it appears and other signals. A charge like this one lands in a single category unless you split it yourself in the mobile app. Sorayli reads the receipt and saves each of the seven items as its own transaction: $30.15 under Food & Dining, $16.57 under Personal Care and $12.99 under Shopping. Before you save, you can correct the shop, the date and each item's name, amount and category.

That split answers what a statement cannot: how much of a supermarket bill was food, and how much went on toiletries over a year. A bank feed that files the whole $62.07 as food counts $29.56 of shampoo, toothpaste and a cable, plus the $2.36 of tax on them, as food on this one trip.

You can get the same view with no app at all. Keep the receipt, write a category next to each line, and total each category at the bottom. Do it for two weeks of receipts and you will know which of your categories hide other spending. Our receipt scanner does that sorting for you.

04Subscriptions: found for you or marked by you

Rocket Money builds its list from linked accounts, so it misses a subscription paid from an account that is not linked, or one on an account that was linked recently and has not finished loading. A subscription with no payment in the past month moves to an Inactive list and comes back when a new payment appears.

In Sorayli, you mark a charge as recurring when you add or edit it. On the web, the Subscriptions page shows your total per month and per year, how many are active, and what is due in the next 30 days. An email lists the ones renewing in the next 3 days, on every plan. Marking a charge recurring does not log next month's charge for you, and pausing a subscription in Sorayli takes it out of your totals without stopping the company billing you.

If you don't want to link a bank, this method finds them from your statements and email:

  1. Open the last three months of statements for every card and bank account you pay from.
  2. Search your email for "renewal", "receipt" and "your subscription" over the last 12 months. A yearly plan shows up only once a year, so three months of statements can miss it.
  3. List every repeating charge with its name, amount and billing cycle. Divide yearly prices by 12 to get a monthly cost.
  4. Mark each one keep or cancel. Cancel with the company, or in your App Store or Google Play settings for anything billed there.
  5. For the ones you keep, note the next renewal date. In Sorayli, marking the charge recurring gets you the 3-day renewal email.

Our guide on how to find and cancel subscriptions walks through each step, and tracking expenses without linking your bank sets out a weekly routine that keeps the list current.

05Budgets side by side

Rocket Money's budget is monthly. You enter your monthly income, mark which charges are bills and utilities, and add spending categories; it then shows how much you would save if you hit the budget. Budgeting on its website needs Premium.

A Sorayli budget is a monthly limit on one category, such as Food & Dining, or on all your spending. You pick an alert point from 50% to 100% in 5% steps, 80% to start, and get an email when spending reaches it, then again at 100%. Turn on push notifications in the iPhone app and you get a push too. Alerts come from a scheduled check on Sorayli's server, so they arrive after the purchase, not with it. Weekly and yearly budgets are tracked, but only monthly ones get alerts you can rely on.

The trade-off: a Rocket Money budget counts every charge on your linked accounts, and a Sorayli budget counts only what you scan or type. If you skip logging for a week, Sorayli's budget is low by that week. In return, a Food & Dining budget in Sorayli counts only the food items on a mixed receipt, not the shampoo and the cable. More on how Sorayli budgets and alerts work.

06What each costs

Rocket Money is free to download. Premium is pay what you think is fair: you choose a monthly price on a sliding scale, which Rocket Money says typically runs from $7 to $14 a month and may change. New Premium members get a 7-day free trial. Premium+ is $15 a month. The pages we read describe monthly billing only. Sorayli Pro is $9.99 a month or $69.99 a year.

At the bottom of its range, Rocket Money Premium costs $84 over 12 months, $14.01 more than a year of Sorayli Pro. Billed month to month, Sorayli Pro comes to $119.88, inside Rocket Money's range. The free plans differ more than the paid ones. Rocket Money Free includes subscription tracking, bill tracking, credit score viewing and basic budgeting. Sorayli Free includes 10 receipt scans and 10 spending questions a month, 2 budgets, the subscriptions list on the web, and as many typed-in purchases as you like. Pro and Family have no monthly scan limit, with fair-use caps of 300 scans a month on Pro and 800 on Family. See Sorayli's plans.

Which one, for whom

Choose

Rocket Money if

  • You want an app to find the subscriptions you forgot about, from your bank data.
  • You want someone else to cancel subscriptions or negotiate bills for you.
  • You live in the US, bank with a US bank, and are fine linking your checking account.
  • You want credit score, net worth and savings tools in the same app.

Choose

Sorayli if

  • You don't want to link a bank or card to a budgeting app.
  • You want each item on a receipt saved with its own category, so a store run does not all count as groceries.
  • You pay in cash often, or in more than one currency.
  • You want monthly category budgets with an alert at the point you pick, and 2 of them free.

Neither, if you need expense reports for an employer. Look at Sorayli vs Expensify for that case.

Is Rocket Money free?

Yes, with a free plan that includes subscription tracking, bill tracking and basic budgeting. Premium costs a monthly price you choose, typically $7 to $14, and Premium+ is $15 a month.

Can you use Rocket Money without linking a bank account?

No. Rocket Money's help center says it needs at least a checking account linked. If you would rather not link one, Sorayli tracks what you scan or type and never connects to a bank.

Does Sorayli find and cancel subscriptions like Rocket Money?

No. You mark a charge as recurring, and it then counts in your subscription totals and renewal emails. Sorayli does not detect subscriptions, and you cancel with the company that bills you.

What is a Rocket Money alternative that doesn't need a bank link?

Rocket Money needs at least a checking account linked, because it finds subscriptions in your bank transactions. Sorayli never connects to a bank: you mark a charge as recurring once, and it joins one list with its monthly and yearly cost and an email before it renews. Our guide on how to find and cancel subscriptions shows how to find them yourself from a statement.

Is there a free Rocket Money alternative?

Rocket Money has a free plan itself, with subscription tracking and basic budgeting. Sorayli's Free plan has no end date and covers 10 receipt scans a month, 2 budgets, unlimited typed-in purchases and the subscriptions list, with no bank link.

Does Rocket Money work outside the US?

Its help center says Rocket Money is only available to people in the United States with US-based banks. Sorayli has no bank connection, so it does not depend on where your bank is, and it converts each purchase to your base currency.
